Tenuki,

There is more than one way to tie an alpine loop! It is quite easy to tie around a closed object once you know how. I will send picture soon as I figure out how to post them.

You should be able to figure it out yourself if you start with a loop made by your method and untie one side of the knot.

I have to use bowlines, since I have two sheets, not just one really long one. As for her speed.. in that video, we were doing about 12 knots... I've had her up to 15 knots a couple of times. Most days, we're up at 9-10 knots without really even trying...

By the way - your headsail was tied with bowlines!

The more knots I know the more I can impress my powerboat friends!

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Tenuki,
Here how you tie an alpine loop around a fixed closed object.

Adjust the size and location of the loop before you pull it tight and you done.

Leapfrog breaks 8 knots only when its being hauled to the marina. I might have to consider a multihull for my next boat.

Of course a Telstar 28 can do 40-50 knots dead upwind... on the trailer.

On day I was out, and I had a 50' gaff rigged schooner following me... It was pretty light winds... and she had up all the sails... I had only my genoa up.. and it took her well over 45 minutes to catch up to me and then finally pass me. The captain of the schooner and I spoke... regarding the amount of crew he needed, since I was singlehanding... and he had and needed five or six crew aboard.
