The 2007 J24 National Championships were hoseted by Florida Yacht Club in Jacksonville. That might be a great area to head to to learn more about your boat. Good sailing on the upper St. Johns River past Jacksonville City too!!

Tom could sail the boat that far and put it up for sale there and hopefully make some cash in the deal.
Prefferedly someplace not too far north, perhaps St. Augustine?
He gets some time underway and then gets an opportunity to move up to something more appropriate.
Good idea. Thanks! And someone is already posting answers

Well, how did Tom do? We should have heard from him. We have sailed our cruisers (Catalina 22 and Columbia 30) in Lake Mead and a 42' Tatoosh in the San Juans. My husband wants to go to Michigan and get a J24 that is in storage. I am afraid it could be Tom's and I know there has to be some closer. We would put her back in FRESHwater in a big lake in Idaho. So, is there anyone out there who wants to sell one of these capsizable J-boats closer to home - Washington?

Hi there,

Just joined the Forum, hello from the Far north of Scotland. I am reading this with interest and couldn't help just a few words. I agree with what has been said about the J/24, and whilst it could make the journey if well planned, it really isn't the boat as I think you know already. Can I just suggest that if you are on limited budget and don't want a 'big' boat to cruise, the Contessa 26 is in your price range, hard to come by over your way but they are available. It's a classic for what you want and will take you anywhere. It would make a J/24 look like a kids toy.

Cheers.

Looks like Tom sailed for 4 months and is now farming in Kentucky. Check out his blog that he posted earlier (post #27)

Perhaps he should have got a bigger boat... in a more moderate climate.
