Where to take Dinghy lessons in the Naptown/Balt area?

Greetings all,

I've been a keelboat sailor and (sometimes racer) most of my adult life. I've recently become interested in learning to sail and race dinghy class boats. I've taken plenty of keelboat courses over the years, but never a dinghy course. Most of the bigger name sailing schools in the Naptown/Balt area that I am familiar with do mostly keelboat only (J/World, ASS, etc.). Where should I go to find a dinghy sailing course/program that is worth the time/money and may possibly be race-oriented? I realize it's late in the season... I'm getting ready for a winter frostbite series starting in November, but I'd like to start planning now for dinghy lessons in the spring/summer.

Thanks!

It's Annapolis. You call it anything else and the locals will make you do 720s at every mark.

Rainbows and J/80s are the smallest boats I can think of in Annapolis that are used in classes. You might try hooking up with someone at SSA with a good record and go sailing with him/her.

Of course if you call the city anything but Annapolis you might have to swim back in from the spider.

Nickname(s): "America's Sailing Capital" , "Sailing Capital of the World", "Naptown"

Annapolis, Maryland - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
That and a Google search on "Naptown + Annapolis" retuns 8,070 hits.

And I've lived here for 15 years and the term is quite common.

But thanks for the advice...

tommays will become famous soon enough
Just look for the Laser dealer in your area

The IC sailing program's fleet of racing dinghies consists of 42 racing Lasers, 50 training Lasers, 22 420s, 22 Flying Juniors ect

The Naval academy has a HUGE program

If a dirty bottom slows you down what do you think it does to your boat

SSA would be the place to go. Lots of people are looking for crew. Check out the Thistle fleet. PM me and we can talk.

Google Naptown + Indianapolis and get 60,100 hits. Naptown = Indianapolis. Not so much sailing there. *grin*

Drop by SSA and check the bulletin board and show up on nights when they are racing what you are interested in. Lots of people catch boats in the parking lot at the last minute when crew doesn't show up.
