Smile First solo sail tonight

Just felt like I oughtta tell somebody..
went out in the bay with the wife and sister and wife's friend...
wind was about 5knts which is ok by me...
more reggae music and about 23 minutes to make a decision to tack..

a couple of tacks, a couple of jibes and motorsailed back to the marina..
pulled in neatly like i knew what i was doing...

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Congratulations! You're very lucky to live in a part of the world where a decent set of foulies will allow you year-round sailing. I'm sure you know the standard advice, but I'll list it as I learned it.

1) One hand for the boat.

2) If you think it may be time to reef, it's time to reef.

3) More sailors have drowned falling off the transom during a pee than by being eaten by sea monsters. Clip on before tip out.

Well done. Great feeling, isn't it?!

It'll get better every time, if you can believe that!

Well, we went out again, and spent the night on the boat this time..
We just sailed back and forth across the harbor and as the sun started to set, went up a river and anchored.. the bow anchor pulled loose in the night, but the stern anchor caught us.. i got up and pulled up the stern and set the bow better about 2 am.. it was a full moon and an amazing night.. when we got up, and were eating breakfast, we saw 3 bald eagles attacking some kind of marsh duck.. it was fantastic, they were only 50ft away and huge birds.... the eagle finally won and got his breakfast.. my wife felt sorry for the duck...

We left our anchorage and sailed back across the bay a couple of times then pulled up at an island, she read a book on the bow while I cleaned the bottom of the boat..

I'm dying to get out there again.. the wind was about 5knots the first day and 8 the second.. great to practice... but i'd like to give 10-15 a shot..

Brakes,

Where do you keep the boat?

I just bought my Cat 30 and have it over at Patriots Point. Unfortunentaly I am in Kuwait for the next three months. I have a friend that I partnered with that will keep an eye on her for me until I return.

SC is a great place. I've been down the ICW a couple of times and a SC marsh sunrise is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.

Sometimes you just have to take it slow. Don't worry your 15 knots will come. I would practice reefing at the dock, and be prepared with knowledge, and get to kniow every lines function. Getting stuck in 20 knots is no time to learn. That's when the sheets hit the fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!......i2f
