First Lessons

We took our first lessons - ASA 101 - today and will finish tomorrow in Galveston Bay. We were supposed to take these 2 months ago - but IKE intervened. We spend 3 hours in the classroom and 4 hours on the Bay this afternoon. It was wonderful out in the Bay - nice breeze in a nice Hunter 31. We struggled w/ getting back into the dock as one of the students dropped his line and the back of the boat swung over - fortunately no boat in the next slip! The experience out in the bay was fantastic however - I almost can't describe the incredible feeling at the helm or just riding along in the cockpit - it was in short incredible! I know we've made the right decision about going for it - selling up and sailing off in 5 years and have made our next big step today!!

I'm guessing since you said a Hunter 31 that you are taking your class with Sailtime. If so, who is your instructor? If not, who is your class with?

We had our lesson with Windward Seaventure out of Waterford Harbor in Kemah. Rob was our instructor and he was great. We were out about 6 hours on a very windy bay yesterday and had the time of our lives. I think the boat is actually a 33 rather than a 31 as I previously stated. "Saucy" is the boat's name.

I love that bay! Cheri and I were married on a Morgan in the middle of it. Great place to learn sailing.

Sailing is like crack isn't it? Can't get enough!!!

I know the boat, I used to be slipped right across from her. I am very jealous you got to sail yesterday, as I was crossing the channel on 146 on my way to work, the thought of calling in sick was almost too strong to resist. Congratulations and welcome to the insanity

Congrats Dave, I am still lQQkin for my boat!!! And the sad part is that... I work at a hospital over lQQkin 2 marinas and a ton of boats in the harbor.
Hence the journey continues.
