Life jackets
I know this is an old thread, but there might be a lot of people who read it to learn something new.
What I don't remember reading anywhere in the list of excellent suggetions was: put your life jacket on!!
If you need to reef your sails or take them in all the way due to a thunderstorm, you (and all crew in the cockpit) need to have life jackets on before they are needed.
