Good on ya mate! Sounds like you learned alot about the boat, your skill level and your wive's tolerance. Keep sailing and you'll find the more you learn the more there is to know.

Re: any disparaging comments. Ignore them. If someone thinks they have all the answers, they simply don't know all the questions.

On one of our first few outings after I attained ASA105, I remember sailing along nicely; me at the helm, the admiral in the cockpit, for a couple of hours at about 5kts in 10-15kts apparent when she declared; "OK, I'm bored."

"Cruising," I replied, "is hours of peace punctuated by moments of terror. And -you are tempting the gods."

Sure enough, not 10 minutes later, the wind piped up - we hit 8kts, and heeled over to about 30⁰. She was terrified..."Still bored?" I asked :

She hasn't complained about boredom since....

CalebD will become famous soon enough
The Rappahannock used to be one of the cleanest rivers in VA (western shore) and probably still is. I have a friend who lives in Fredericksburg on Franklin St. near St. Mary's College . He's a great sailor and an easy going fellow.
If you ever feel like kicking up your heels and having a fun free for all then look up Don Mullen in Fred. Tell him Caleb sent you.
Enjoy the 'Rap'.
My best.

All,

We ended our 2nd sail in success today. Winds much nicer at 9-13 KTS on the Rappahannock. Sailed to the bridge and back. Hoisted main then jib. Got practice on reefing both. The missus managed the helm most of the afternoon while I was hoisting and trimming sails. Departing and returning to dock was uneventful. Hope to make it back out tomorrow after church.

One anecdote: bought two auto inflate vests for missus and self today. I loaded CO2 cartridge in mine and then loaded hers. Wanted to check the pill in hers, flipped the gray lever and boom...autoinflated!! Wife laughed at me the rest of the afternoon:-)

Thumbs up

Congratulations sounds like you and the wife have got it going in the right direction.

My wife and I will be going out for our second sail after church. If the weather permits. We are watching hurricane Ida as she goes into the Gulf of Mexico.

Billy,

Please keep us posted on the hurricane. Our Sunday afternoon outing went well. We had 2-3 KTS winds and a very uneventful time. I had two of our kids and the missus practice hoisting and reefing sails, navigation, and sail trim. Starting and stopping the engine and how to use the GPS. Undocking and docking with no scuffs or hitch.
