I jumped in with both feet and bought a boat (78' Catalina 30) and need help sailing it on the bay this weekend. I'm still a novice, so any experienced help would be greatly appriciated. I'm afaid all I have to offer in return is a couple beers and an afternoon of sailing. (540) 206-9186

Thanks,
Rachel

Congratulations on the boat... I'm sure that you'll hear from someone down your way. I'm only down that way about twice a year. I'd highly recommend that you get Dave Seidman's book, The Complete Sailor. It is probably the best sailing primer that I've run across in over twenty years. About $16 at the local bookstore.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Congrats!

You could also make a post in the "crew wanted section", which might get more attention. You might want to consider more formal classes. ASA or US Sailing are the most established nation wide. They are an expense/investment, but lessons from a professional instructor are invaluable.

Good luck!
