OK, I''ve got charts and I know how to use them...

One question. You don''t actually write on the darn things do you?

I''m assuming you overlay them with something?

Can''t believe that these things are single use items.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Carlos

Actually using Charts

If I am sailing a route that I am likely to sail again I will layout my courses with a very sharp pencil and label the courses so that I can use them again. On a long passages in order to log my positions, I carry 3x5 cards and make notes every half hour or so on speed, course, and position. With GPS I check the positions on the chart but generally do not bother to plot all of these points on the chart. Before GPS, I made more frequent notes and I kept a running DR position which I marked lightly on the chart in soft sharp pencil.

just write directly on the chart
what you need is a 2B pencil, these are soft enough to be rubbed off by an eraser
