jrd22 will become famous soon enough
Remember ground school and flying with the instructor and then that magical first solo? Do you also remember that you didn't really start learning until you were solo and there wasn't an instructor sitting right next to you that could take over if needed or answer a question if you forgot a procedure? Same deal with sailing. You will want /need experience before you are comfortable and feel that it's safe to take your wife and guests sailing in unfamiliar waters on a boat that you first laid eyes on an hour or so ago. In other words, it takes awhile to make all the mistakes that form the basis of experience. Take a CG Aux. class and learn the basics and some sailing classes or crew on a boat until you feel comfortable, you'll know when you are ready, everyone is different.
