Good idea on the ID #...my club has several Capri/Catalina 22s with the wing keel. The 4 ft keel boat looks totally different on a trailer. Another option: if the boat comes with a trailer, look at the trailer. It should be substantially higher than the one in the photo.

The owner doesn't know?

1970 Catalina 22 Keel Problem

Does anyone know of a retrofit kit to convert the single bolt thru hull swing keel into one that does not leak? Or, a better way to install or torque original design to prevent leaking. Mine leaks a fair amount every time I use it. I finally after many years dropped the keel out and am trying to put it back together in a better way.

Most production boats have an association website... a quick google search says:

Catalina 22 National Sailing Association

I'm guessing they'll have good suggestions.

If the water is clear enough, and the boat is in a slip with fingers on either side, have a friend stand on one finger and pull on a shroud to tip the boat a bit while you look under it from the other finger. You should be able to see the whether the keel is a fin or wing pretty easily.

Take a boat hook and see if there's a wing under there when you poke around. They aren't small. Is the rudder the same between the two models?
