sailing lessons new orleans

Does anyone know of any classes in the new orleans area, or better yet anyone interested in doing private leasons on my 31 niagara. I have most of the basics but need the ins and outs of proper rigging and sail trim,,,, thanks

Can't believe you haven't received a response. I know there are New Orleans sailors out there. Maybe they're already out on Pontchartrain! It's certainly been warm enough!

You should probably check in to the local yacht clubs for information on lessons. Save joining a club, there are certified (US Sailing, etc) instructors available somewhere out there.

A Google search brought the following

ASA Schools

SYC

Here's an old thread on Sailnet about sailing in New Orleans.

nolatom will become famous soon enough
I was in that old thread, and still here, and what I said then I think still goes. Am a bit booked up weekends on scheduled lessons at Murrays, which you likely have seen already in the ASA school list above. So doubt I'd have time for private lessons, and I didn't want to sound like a commercial anyway, but more than happy to meet you on the boat some time and look at how you're rigged.

My wife and daughter and I took lessons in New Orleans with nolatom. We were just talking about him the other night, about how goooooood of a teacher he was. We live in Baton Rouge and drove to N.O. to take lessons. We now own a sailboat and sail out of Mandeville. We have owned a sailboat for almost 2 years. We go sailing almost every weekend. Thanks Tom.

I still teach for murrayyachtsales.com (weekends), if you like you could contact them and set up a lesson on the Lake during the weekend you're in town. Ask for Kathleen.

Or ask around on line, maybe you already know someone here?

Tom

Rick Delaune is on a distinguished road
Re: sailing lessons new orleans

Dear Newbie Sailors, I am Rick Delaune and the owner of Delaune Yacht Brokerage, LLC in Mandeville, LA. I have helped a considerable number of sailors to learn how to sail their boats. My approach is to build confidence in hours NOT days. The lessons are taught on larger boats and therefore the wind and wave pressures are more forgiving, so your confidence level will be established more quickly. The course includes a variety of discussions ranging from sailing theory, to navigation, to anchoring and of course quality time at the helm of the boat. Imagine, you are actually the skipper and I am your crew. So if learning to sail is your passion, you owe it to yourself to give me a call.

Smooth Sailing, Rick
