I use Imagine to Frolic's method...Sew the two but ends together and then I wrap the joint with a little overlap in Atomic tape very tightly to make a smooth transition. It needs to roll over the Sheeve smoothly
I use a carpet thread to sew. The sewing is just a little extra insurance imo.
You can usually feel when the butt joint gets to the sheeve, a slight extra downward presssure on the pull side, with some pressure on the feed side will help turn it in the right direction. If it hangs up, don't force it, just back off and try it again. Not that difficult at all.
