Fair Winds Sailing Course BVI

Just scheduled a week long bareboat course with Fair Winds for March 2012. I will be sailing with spouse and another couple. All of us are very much so novice. I have been seeing many mixed reviews on Fair Winds, but not many in last 12-14 months. Has anyone used Fair Winds in last 12-14? Seems boat fleet is old.. True?

It depends on what boat you end up taking your class on. When they are busy they charter boats from another charter company. I suggest you do a search on traveltalkonline dot com under either USVI or BVI forums and see what has been said over there.

Run, don't walk.
Cancel and book another option.

I can chime in here....
Boats are not maintained; worrisome in terms of safety. Captains can be very good or so-so. Manager of Fair Winds is iffy and will not return calls nor provide clear information.
My family had a good trip, but it was stressful dealing with the company and with the preparation. Will not do business again with them.

I think one can do better. They are a low-priced outfit. You get what you pay for.

@ chairSailor

Thanks for info. chairsailor. Looks like we are stuck now, since we have already paid %50 deposit. Wife planned for my 40th birthday. Thanks again and hopefully it works out best.

I was down sailing with BWSS 2 weeks ago and spent 2 nights at the same port with a Fair Winds sailing school boat. We spent time visiting with their students over dinner. They were all very happy with their week and had nothing but good things to say about the experience, training and their Captain Ethan.
