I think this, especially the emphasized (by me) part, is not precisely true. Some (all?) sailboat hulls are designed to have a longer waterline and less wetted surface when heeled. However this benefit doesn't continue to grow the further your heel; there's a designed-in optimal angle.

Thanks Adam, of course you are correct, there,s no sailing without heel.

Hartley, thanks for the tip. Your suggestion is fine but you havn,t seen the traveler set up on a Centaur. A bit of rope in a V cleat. Its not easy to play this when under load. I could go up market but I want to keep the original equipment intact.
