Not Enough Wind for a Novice

Well, today was by far the best I have done with both leaving the marina and docking by using the bow lines. (Why didn’t I think of that sooner?) My pleasure at this was pretty much overshadowed, however, by the lack of wind on the Patuxent River by the naval air station. There were some people out farther south in the bay, and a few other sails up, but most of us just kinda sat there.

I’m sure those of you who are more skilled might have made something of it, but for us, it just wasn’t happenin’!

Dang! Not I have to wait until next weekend, since I have to attend 4 high school graduations this week in the evening.

We had the same issue here in Tn this past week, lots of heat and absolutely no wind whatsoever. You are not in misery alone.

Same here n NH. Litttle wind. Temps were great though ....60's to low 70's.

Yesterday 15-20, peak 25 kts - boat speed 6.5 kts
Today: 15 kts steady - boat speed 6 kts


Last weekend steady 15 kts both days, boat speed 7 kts avg.

We feel your pain - this weekend we played trawler. Although we didn't get the sails up, we did have a nice motor to and from our favorite anchorage, plus a very nice night on the hook. We prefer to sail, but a day on the water always beats a day on the land - except when temps approach 100, then we stay home and watch movies.

The wife and I went out Saturday and had a nice sail- 10-12 knot winds in the mouth of The Sassafras River until about 4pm when the clouds looked dark enough to head in. Never made it out to the Bay, but could see quite a few boats out by the channel, some pretty healed over so it definitely looked the air was moving out there.

Lazily ran back to the marina, stopped about a mile short, dropped the hook and swan when it was obvious the clouds would not come to anything.

Had a cocktail once we were tied up, ate dinner at the marina and watched the house band. Crawled into the V-berth around 10pm and couldn't keep my eyes open!
