run the lines to the cockpit, and put a downhaul on the jib, this way it is stuck down till you need to raise it,
main first, and as lifting once boom moves de tach the topping lift and tighten in
then jib depending on which way i will be heading i pull that side sheet line taught with two wraps on the winch, this keeps it but can allow it some slack if needed.
then adjust jib, main and off to the races, kick back snap tab of bud lime and relax

@knottygurl - thanks for the tips! Running the lines to the cockpit will be a project for the winter season. Yesterday I was nearly single handled it (someone else was on board), with everything except raising and lowering the sails..and I have an auto tiller to install this week

Adell50sounds like your on the right track then.
having a second but doing everything will get you alongfaster and help to work the kinks for single handed sailing with a bonus if you need help their there
