Is is possible in the confusion you let go of the tiller? (trust me, when I was learning I did this a lot) The mainsheet is the gas, and the tiller is the steering wheel... when the sh*t hits the fan, let go of the gas, not the steering wheel. When in doubt, let it out. If the glove doesn't fit, you must acquit... sorry wrong forum.

Biy one of these: CastleCraft Sunflower Sailboat | Snark Sunflower 3.3 Sailboats and sail it on windy days for half a summer. They're styrofoam with a hard plastic skin, one mast, one sail, one line, and simple as a stone axe. Wonderful learning platform. I have to say that at one point or two, I realized I was empty handed! lol
