OK. So "rolly" and "tender" are the same?

not necessarily the same but often linked. tender is that it leans easily -- a deep draft fin keel with no low weight could be tender but not rolly. in most cases the characteristics are linked.
Thanks for the info DRFerron. Looking at the specks on that Gulf I would think it would not be Tender and handle more like a displacement haul power boat. Thats why I would want to sail Her first in some wind. I want my family safe at all costs. We are not looking for speed right now, just some Blue water comfort. Would this type of keel not be safe in moderate seas and winds? sorry about all the questions, but I have a feeling Im only just getting started.

on the link to this Gulf pilot house. I have owned many blue water power boats and have over 25 years of playing in the ocean. Do any of you guys have experience with a pilot house. How are they under power? do they sail well? I have always loved these types of sail boats. I no they would not be the fastest, but they fill a niche for me. Cruise or sail. We are in no hurry to buy anything at the moment. Thanks for your time guys.

This says it all. If you love your boat, you will sail it more, maintain it better and get the most out of it. Take her sailing. If she sails alright for YOU, that's all you care about. She might be a bit slower than "that one" or a bit more tender that "this one", but you won't be on those boats to compare, so who cares? I've heard good things about Gulf 32s in the past, and she's certainly a good looking boat to my eyes. Can't hurt to have more light below. Take her sailing....you'll know. And if you find yourself looking back at her when you're heading home, she's the one.

No sea trail needed with this boat. They photo shopped the hull color to start with. Its this nasty to us anyways mustard yellow. Bigtime work needed to get her ship shape.
In this market she will be hard to sell.

The boat that you sent the link to was the same boat you went to see and the hull color is different? Maybe that's why the photo in the ad is all blurry.

blt2ski will become famous soon enough
I know someone with a 28'? version, and there is a 32 in my marina too. The hull IIRC is a C&C design. with a birdie is saying Bill Garden did the deck/interior design. JeffH would probably correct me if I am way off. They do sail ok. The 28 is slow compared to a std C&C design/deck etc. In PHRF terms. almost 90-120 secs a mile slower!

Not sure you really need or want a PH in SD. Now if you were up here in the Salish Sea......you may find a PH boat with kids to be rather nice. While we do not have a lot of sunshine, we do get a lot of cloudy'ish reasonably dry cool days all year one can sail. So these designs do sell reasonably well up here. Not that at this time in my life, I would want one. Maybe in 15 yrs or so.........maybe.........ok, when I am tooooooooo old to sail.......Then I will go buy a trawler/mini tug! with a mini steadying sail so the boat does not plow/bounce as much!
