RYA vs US Sailing certifications and conversion

I'm looking to start courses for more certifications. RYA courses are readily available in New Zealand and I depart to live there for six months later this week. Are the certificates easily transferrable to U.S. certifications. I would like to work towards becoming a sailing instructor. Are the RYA ratings a waste of $?

The RYA certifications are usually considered the gold standard. I wish I had them.

Having said that, as an instructor you will be teaching the standards of the the certifying agency. I certify for two different ones and the standards are a little different.

Check with ASA and US Sailing for their prerequisites before starting down any path.
