Seeking Sailing instructor to teach on my boat

Hello Everyone

I recently purchased a Seb Marine Aloa 34.

Its currently still in dry dock but in about a month I plant to put it in the water and to spend the season puttering around NYC, Long Island Sound and NJ on it.

I am interested in hiring an instructor to help me perfect my technique on this boat and how to best run it.

I will probably get a group of friends together and hope to spend a day a week or so on the boat learning how to handle it in diverse conditions.

I also want to learn more about navigation and long distance cruising.
I am also interested in learning single/ short handing.

I am looking for a highly skilled instructor who is easy going and can teach me how to be a good sailor overall.

any suggestions are welcome.

thank you

Andreas
I have the basic kheel boat and cruising qualification.

Where are you located? You might also contact a local yacht club about members who might be interested/qualified to give lessons.

I am located in Manhattan
I contacted the 3 schools on the west side and none of them offer instructors who come aboard your boat.

Hi Andreas,

Where will you be keeping the boat when it's splashed? I may be able to help you out, or point you to someone who can. I am a local instructor with local contacts. If you want you can PM me.

Re: Seeking Sailing instructor to teach on my boat

I say let's get together for a drink and talk about this sometime soon.

I believe you are hoping to keep your boat at a downtown mooring which is a few blocks from my place in Tribeca. I hope you have contacted them to reserve yourself a spot for this season.
Hudson River Park - Moorings
The mooring field used to be just south of Houston St. but is moving closer to Chambers St. this summer. The building to the right in the photo in the above link is my parking garage at Pier 40.

Caleb
I called them and they said they had not given away the contract this year yet and to call back in a week.

But yes Down town is the idea.
