I just moved my boat to Ventura and am living aboard. Ithought it was great...at first. Then the wind changed, litterally. The harbor smells so bad. I mean really really bad. I never thought to ask...who would? I mean do you really think to ask " Oh, and how does yuour marina smell?

No one told me before i moved in but Ventura harbow sits right next to Ventur''as only WASTE TREATMENT center facilty. So close I could throw a rock at one of the huge million gallon POOP tanks! I am not kidding. If you want to know what its like to breather here, just stick your nose in your holding tank for awhile. If you plan on taking your beautiful date out one night to show her your boat, do consult the weather that day to be sure the wind will be blowing away from the marina. Other than that, it''s a great place.

yessirree bub you cant be more correct.I remember the sirenes at that **** factory going off at all hours of the nite warning us all of the up and comming melt down.all in all ventura is a good place to be from .FAR FROM.tell the harbor patrol "STARCREST" is alive and well and sailing in south florida.Im wondering how much they are charging you for being on your boat like you are,if you still need to display that stupid decal somewhere,if you still have to do that liveaboard inspection and if they charge you extra to use the showers as I heard they started to do.

I really shouldnt write so badly about that place. The times I had there were magic and some were tragic.be forewarned,I have every intention of stopping off there on my next return crossing from hawaii. I remember there was a crisis with people loosing cats and dogs there, and they were getting suspicious of the viet cong fisherman and their dietary customs

Thank you for reply. Are you still in Ventura? This was actually the area I was considering. Which marina? I have never noticed the smell from the tourist area of the harbor. Any hidden unexpected charges?
Thanks Bill

NO I LEFT CALIFORNIA IN 1993 AND DO NOT CARE TO EVER GO BACK UNLESS I NEED A PLACE TO DUMP WASTE OIL.I AM HERE IN SOUTHEAST FLORIDA LIVING ON A 29 FOOT ISLANDER WAYFARER THAT I PAID VERY LITTLE FOR AND MIRACULOUSLY SURVIVED DIRECT HITS FROM 2 HURRICAINES LAST YEAR.I AM CURRENTLY RECOOPERATING FROM MAJOR SURGERY AND AM TEMPORARRILY LIVING SHORESIDE.IT SEEMS THAT 20 YEARS OF WORKING IN THE X-RAY FEILD HAS GIVEN ME THYROID CANCER BUT I HAVE AT LEAST 30 YEARS LEFT.I WAS AT JUST ABOUT ALL OF THE AVAILABLE MARINAS THERE ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT BOATS,AND THE COST OF KEEPING A BOAT THERE WENT UP EVERY YEAR WITH THE EXCUSE THAT ALL OTHER MARINAS WERE RAISING THEIR RATES.SO I STOPPED PAYING LIVEABOARD FEES AND BEGAN TO SNEAK ABOARD AND WAS QUITE SUCCESSFUL AT THAT.EVEN THOUGH IT WAS SO LONG AGO,LET ME ASSURE YOU IF YOU MENTION THE NAME ''STARCREST''AT THE HARBOR OFFICE YOUWILL PROBABLY BE SEARCHED
