Marina Del Rey Liveaboard

I will be relocating to LAX (airport area) in Los Angeles and would like to consider living in the marina. Anyone have thoughts on:

1. Renting an apartment or house in the marina/general area?
2. Renting and living aboard a yacht in the marina?
3. Purchasing yacht/slip and living in the marina?

Be there a couple years.

Jim

Ahoy, Marina Del Rey!

Hi Jim - I will be moving into the marina and living aboard a 36' yacht home starting this July and it looks like a really well-maintained spot. There are also lots of boats for sale in the area and some are pretty well priced.

Also, they do have some slips that are open for live aboard status (I am not sure if there are vacancies though). I will be getting a slip transfered to me with the boat I am buying - the slip is around $550/month and may be a little more for the live aboard status.

Let me know if you have any specific questions, I will be there over the weekend and would be happy to check something out if you want.

Re: Marina Del Rey Liveaboard

Hi,

Do you still live in Marina Del Rey? Are liveabords there the slip fee plus an additional liveabord fee? I really want to consider living on a boat too but I'm trying to see how much it will cost and how realistic it is.

Thanks!

Re: Marina Del Rey Liveaboard

jjstick,
This is a 9 year old thread and neither noboatjim or booty have posted anything on sailnet in years. I doubt you will be hearing from either.
Why not check around with some local marinas and ask them their costs and policies on allowing live aboards.

Re: Marina Del Rey Liveaboard

I am docked at a liveaboard-friendly marina on Panay Way in MDR and I believe that their policy is 50% surcharge over the regular slip rent for liveaboards. Water and electricity are not metered, so that helps.

As I said in my post 2 months ago, Lapdy Pirate hasn't been on this forum in 9 years. I don't think you will be hearing from her.
