Live Aboard in Washington D.C.

There's minimal places, period. Let alone for LA's.

Across from the DC channel marina's is National Airport. South of that is a sailboat marina run by the US Park Service (which as gov't policy doesn't allow live-aboards) and has gated parking. Next is "Old Town" Alexandria which has a sea wall for temporary tie-ups and a small, private boat club. Further down river just outside the city is Belle Haven, another US Park Svc marina and which is very, very shallow.

Then several miles down river, past Mt. Vernon, is the next one, Mt Vernon Yacht Club. It's a boating country club sort of place, deep in the middle of an upscale suburban neighborhood. Then several miles down to Woodbridge and Occoquon where there are some small marina's which are full of non liveaboard boats. From visiting there I doubt they'd allow or have facilities for LA's.

From there it is waaaaaay down river to south of the Rt 301 bridge before you get another real marina around Colonial Beach. That's commuting to Richmond territory, not DC.

Check out Deale (Herrington North and several smaller marinas on Rockhold Creek), Galesville - Hartge Yacht Yard, and there are a number of other marinas south of Annapolis - half hour or 45 minutes from DC. Also, quieter, less congestion and traffic and a short trip to the Bay and mostly a heck of a lot less expensive than Annapolis, Baltimore or DC.

I notice that all the posts here are three years old. Wonder why? I just came from Gangplank Marina in DC, looking to buy a boat with liveaboard status. The dockmaster said the best way was to google 'liveaboard at Gangplank Marina DC" ... which brings me here. He said those offers get snapped up quickly. ANYONE READY TO SELL at Gangplank with liveaboard?

Best of Luck, the waitlist at the Gangplank runs years, unless you happen to be satisfied with one for sale that comes with a slip.

If you are near DC, I would go and post a note local to the Gangplank with the type of boat you are looking for.

Hmmm seems like there is a business opportunity in DC for a new marina that allows LA's......

When your only competitor has a multi year waiting list then you know already that any new spaces you create can be leased at the same price, pity I live on the other side of the world......

Well... there's not much waterfront in DC.... and what there is could be redeveloped to other purposes.... and any is so incredibly valuable there's big money gunning for it... not to mention the weird political situation of who or what exactly is the governing entity... for "DC" is a city that's more than a city... but not a state... and under control of Congress, which treats it like a colony... and then there are the half dozen or so law enforcement agencies that may have opinions about security... ...it's really amazing there's any place there at all!
