Needing to find a LiveAboard Marina

Hi All, the time to live aboard is coming soon and am looking for a marina in the hopeful southern florida area. Does anyone have any recomendations?

there is a place in miami called sunset marina with many slips available and you can move in now. its only 36 dollars per foot per month,and thats based on a 40 foot minimum.there is also a 75 dollar per month liveaboard fee.If thats not where you want to go,then I beleive the palm beach yacht club has guest slips at 50 dollars per day.or you can wait for the marina in lake okeechobee to be rebuilt.I was there for 5 years,alittle more reasonable rates,accessible from anywhere,look them up on the web.the everglades adventures and sailing resort.dont go swimming in the lake if you go.its like a scene from any of the jurassic park movies.I mean those gators are within arms reach,and they would love to have it as a snack

(36*40)+75 = 1515 $ / month.

That seems pretty expensive for a marina. What facilities do they have there? I was looking to live aborad but at that rate I would rather pay a mortage.

At what ''rate / foot'' do you get a nice marina versus a ''trailer park''? I know this surely depends on location etc... Lets just say near Miami or other large cities in Florida.

well steve you need to understand that this is a place where multi millionaires keep ther boats.Im in a place temporarily at 14 dollars per foot per month ,they dont allow liveaboards but they dont care if you do,see my thread about "just be low key"some of these real ritsy places in palm beach,like where rush limbaugh lives,they require that you have a verifiable liquid net worth of no less than 1.1million dollars

Dinner Key in Miami might be a good start Las Olas Blvd in Ft Lauderdale always has dockage behind the apartments Moss marine in FtMyers. The City of FtLaud has dockage along the river but hard to get. Some marinas look the other way if you are cool about it and don''t make a big thing of staying aboard for extended periods of time. I am always geting ready for a cruise ya know Don''t hang out your laundry or clutter up the dock with junk,bikes outboard parts ect, plywood is a no no.

I am presently in Cortez, Florida, just south of Tampa Bay. In the manatee river, there are two places: Twin Dolphins at $12/ft and a liveaboard fee of about $125. A good place with lots of good people. Across the river is Regatta Point Marina. $12.75 /ft, $125 liveaboard fee, they GOUGE you for electric and fuel, and are run by the worst crew of two-faced lunatics you ever saw, but there are some good customers there, if they have survived. I''m in a place for $8.50 /ft and $100 liveaboard with electric included. I love it. If you look around some, you''ll find places. They exist, and gear up to anchor out. That opens up the cruising here and frees you up.

correcton on twin dolphins. the new fees are $15/foot. It was quoted to my SO yesterday that the new fees are that.
It is a well run, beautiful marina..

cortez? would that be cortez cove marina?
nice place except for the rats and palmetto bugs. I have never had a problem with either until I moved there.
however, the company in the marina is most excellent and the manegement laid back and easy to deal with.
last i heard it is not a legal liveaboard marina but 90% of the boats have ppl who "visit thier boats a lot"

Actually, I''m not in Cortez Cove Marina. I''m in Seafood Shack Marina across the way and right on the intercoastal. It is a legal liveaboard marina, without the bugs or other nasties and no need to lie or sneak aboard. It is sometimes subject to a little ''waking'', being right near the bridge, but it''s great. Sit on the foredeck for sunsets. Watch the traffic on the Intercoastal. Good people. Good place.

I''m thinking of bringing my boat back to the Bradenton/St Pete area this spring. Does anyone know of a resonable place to keep a 37''er? The $500-$700+ at Twin Dolphin and Regatta Point are just too much. A dock behind someone''s house of condo would be fine. Anyone with any ideas?
