Havre de Grace Md. here. Last night was mid 20s outside and mid 70s down below. I use one west marine brand space heater (and keep a spare just in case). The cabin sole gets a little cold, but a few throw rugs take care of that. As far a moisture in lockers goes, i put a damprid hanging bag in each and have had no trouble http://www.damprid.dsiwebbuilder.com...asp?cat=173072.

As far as why do I do it, it's more fun and less expensive than owning a land based home.

electric blanket/mattress warmers

Having used both, there is a significant difference between mattress heaters and electric blankets. The mattress heaters are significantly better at getting/keeping the bed warm.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Very cool. I didn't know you were living aboard. Just you?

Yeah, just me. I don't think that there is enough room for more than one to live aboard an Orion, but an Orion owner in the Pacific Northwest lived aboard and cruised with himself, wife, and daughter. TS, you might know of them from the Orion Yahoo group.

Yeah, it's a Mk II, Morning Star.

I wouldn't be able to do it with three people. I've had a friend aboard for 7 days straight cruising around the north end of the bay. It wasn't too cramped, but I wouldn't want to do it for much longer or with more people.

i have to say that probably the most effective tool against the cold at night is a homemade fleece blanket a friend made for me. just two pieces layered and tied at the ends, but it sure does keep me warm. comfy too!
