You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

awww, that's for wussies. i say do it in the grand canadian style: get 'em drunk load it full o' dynomite, and blow it to kingdom come when he's passed out in the bar. then we'll roast weinies on the burning flotsam while singing barret's privateers:

"The Yankee lay low down with gold
How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now
She was broad and fat and loose in stays
But to catch her took the Antelope two whole days
God damn them all . . . ."

I'd rather be here drinking a beer than freezing my ass in the north

Its still in the 80s, winds up to 10-15 SE,fish are everywhere chasing bait that was smart enough to leave the cold north,[Mutton Snapper today and mango rum] no partly cloudy to shovel here no malaria or killer bees that I've heard of just party and hangovers HAPPY NEW YEAR and May the tide always bring you back

That warm stuff sounds fine, some people can bare it...
I say that kind of climate is like living in a fish tank. No variety...
I enjoy change of scenery, ice, snow, like this morning. Bright sunrise, snow glows pinkish purple, water as smooth as ice, quiet, and the trees look like some garish fantasy creatures... You can tell who went where by their footprints...
Storm comes and it's a different story, all is gray, dark and snow stings...
Those guys in the south don't know what they are missing...

Hey, I but I am a happy Maine-iac...
It sounds like you need to move, and soon....
I chose the lifestyle I live and where I live.
It is challenging, but so is life in general...

call me crazy, but in terms of my "must do before i die" dreams, running the northwest passage tops sailing to warm places. everyone runs to warm places, and the older folks get, the more they run, the smell of dust and liniment in their wake. real men look for adventure, not bubble baths.
were even gonna have husky for dinner tonight

I'm a 13 year liveaboard in Cincinnati, Ohio on the Ohio River. I live on a 36' Gulfstar Trawler (I know, I know. Its not a sail boat. But I used to live on a sail boat for five years, does that count? And my trawler does have a mast... a small one... mostly for looks. But it is a mast. Thats gotta count for something! ) Anyway, I heat with a Hurricane hydronic heating sytem that I installed. It burns diesel from the main tank. I highly recomend the Hurricane. I leave the system running 24 hours a day. I used to shut it down durring the day, while I was away. Mostly just to save money. But I found that it had to work double time for so long to catch up and heat the cabin again, that it just wasn't worth it. I'd rather just come home to a nice warm boat.

I used to have a Webasto. It ran well for a season or two and then it turned into nothing but problems. Very expensive problems. Stay away from Webasto!
