Morning Star, how do you like living aboard in St. Augustine. I have been considering spending some time there.As for small boat living aboard.One big plus with a simple, small boat is that you spend more time livivng and less time as a slave to maintaining and repairing.

Morning Star is actually berthed in Green Cove Springs Marina in the St Johns River, which is about 25 miles (by land) west of St Augustine. Would be great to be closer to blue waters if it wasn''t so expensive out there. Your average decent slip in St Augustine is $12+ per foot. I believe a mooring close to town is around $80 mo. Anyway, if you need more info/advise on the area, let me know. You''d love it there!

Ps. Completely agree with you on the boat size issue. My girlfriend and I live aboard our 29'' and couldn''t be happier...sailing almost every weekend!

he must have practiced a special brand of yoga to use the enclosed head
he had installed...

I have lived aboard my Tanzer 7.5 (24''7") over the summer for a couple of years on the Hudson River. All berths (V + P&S) are comfortable for me though the headroom is a bit short (5''8.5") in most of the cabin. There is a Porti-Potti and a galley w/2-burner non-pressurized alcohol stove, sink, and icebox.

I have shore power and solar (for when I''m on the hook) and have a CD-Player, Color-TV/VCR(over foot of V-Berth), Laptop, etc.. I have a shore-power electric heater and a WindScoop and awning for environmental comfort.

I really enjoy the cruising/liveaboard life and since I''m retiring this year will be taking my boat south where I can keep it in (and liveaboard/cruise) year-round. It has plenty of storage(I have an outboard so no engine taking up space) and I have a dinghy w/outboard for gunkholing and when I''m on the hook.

All in all, all I need is a compatible companion (any female sailors interested?) and my life aboard would be complete - so I say GO FOR IT!

I lived aboard a Cal21 for 11 weeks two winters ago in the Gulf of Mexico. I had a port-a-poti & a two burner propane stove, the kind that uses the 1 lb. cans. I had the time of my life!!! I didn''t want to go back to reallity after that. I''ve since had a 26'' Chrysler & now have a Morgan Outisland 30 that I will be moving onto next summer & taking to all points south. So, yes!!!! Do it!!!

I live on my 22' trailer sailer. Give no heed to the naysayers. I tend to spend summers backpacking and bike touring, so minimalist living is my forte. In order to simplify your galley, I suggest:

Bagged Salad
Shelf-Stable Soup in cans or tetra-paks
PB&J sandwiches
Canned Juice

I have found these all to be pretty simple to store and prepare. Anything more complicated than boiling water tends to become a chore. The irony within all this is that I am regarded as quite the gourmet at my lady's house.

So, for this thread being six and a half years old, I think I will play too. I must say that I look at this as some sort of sign because I bought my boat about eight months ago, I was just laid off of my job and am wanting to try something a little more minimalist. Now, problem is that I have a dog, two cats and a snake. Although I live in New Orleans where it stays pretty warm, I worry about having to have a light on for Joey all of the time. I will have shore power though, so I guess it shouldn't be too bad, but the problem comes in if I decide to "move". But this thread being as old as it is, it still has some amazingly motivating posts to it and it is helping convince me that my Ranger 23 won't be that bad after all. One of those times where I will say thanks for the resurrection...

He hope it works out for ya Corey. I lived aboard my watkins 27 for 3 years ... only real issue to me was storing winter clothes but I never felt cramped. Im on a morgan 34 right now but in a couple decades when retirement comes... I think I wast a Nor Sea 27 with a customized interior for me by myself cruising.

wow after reading some of these posts i feel very spoiled living on my catalina 27, especially seeing how i have full 110power throughout the boat a proper head, full galley with refrigeration. at first i thought my boat was going to be too small but after finding various ways to store stuff it is just fine.
