Location, location, location!!!

Getting ready in the next couple days to take a trip to the Florida gulf coast to look for a good area to live, work and play. We will be looking for a CHEAP starter sailboat or houseboat, a reasonable slip fee in a liveaboard OK marina and nearby places to work.

Please, anyone with any ideas, from the panhandle on down to the Tampa area, get in touch and let us know your thoughts.

Especially ''BigRed56''...we''ve read a couple of your posts and it seems you have a good handle on things. And hey, I have a CDL and can help you transport that business of yours down south and help you run it...get in touch!

Again, all help will be very appreciated...though we do need some ideas soon as we plan on heading down for a preliminary look-see in a couple days or so.

THANKS!

Rj and Jessica

Be sure to bypass Naples. There are hardly any slips here at all, and even fewer are liveaboard. Your best bets would be in the Charlotte Harbor area and points north. Hope this helps.

Don''t know about slip availability but there is a little town just north of Clearwater and just off US19 that I saw a few years back. It seemed like the perfect place, lots of slips, 5-star restaurant and if your budget is more limited there are all kinds of restaurants and little pubs (my kind of place) along the main drag into the marina. It also has access to the gulf via the intercoastal (barrier islands exist).

Good luck,
David
