Joe, I''d suggest calling the Kaneohe Bay Yacht Club in Kaneohe, O''aho. I noticed several 35-40'' boats on long-term moorings there but quite clearly not being used. There is also about 100 slips at their docks, and perhaps there''s an opportunity there. It will take some networking to find an available boat, as the "YC" also just rents slips to non-members and so the normal YC clique is less evident. Perhaps someone would be willing to post a note on their BB for you. Kaneohe is on the windward side of the island, tucked inside a large well-protected bay with (usually) regular trade winds. The setting is one of the best on the island.

The other option that leaps to mind is the Ala Wai Marina tucked inbetween the hotels just west of Waikiki Beach. It''s an eclectic mix of junkers, former cruising boats, visiting boats and much more. The marina is huge and the slip rents are far lower than they probably should be, which is why junkers hold onto slips other sailors would love to have access to. A ''use your boat once a year in the nearby ocean'' would be a breath of fresh air but, meanwhile, renting a boat there might be the least costly digs in Honolulu.

Joseph,

I am a liveaboarder out here on Oahu - It might help if you call one of the three marinas that have liveabords - Keehi Marina; Ko Olina Marina; or Ala Wai Yacht Harbor and see if they can help you out. You could also call the Ala Wai Yacht Brokerage or some of the others you can find via yachtworld.com. I am at Keehi - cheap, but noisy, the number there is (808) 845-6465. As I think it over - call the brokers, they would be more aware of boat owners looking for this kind of set. Also if you are military, you can liveaboard at pearl harbor. All these places should have web sites. Good luck.
