I grew up in michigan city. I never dreamt that folks would livaboard in the winter! Seems like it would be dangerous with the ice on the docks and such. How much does it cost per month to stay on the river?

I am interested in what you find out I live in the suburb but have been thinking about moving downtown. I would love to be able to do that on the boat year round.

There is a private marina just south of Harrison on the south branch of the Chicago River. It is privately owned and you can rent a slip from the individual owners durign the winter. I think that it is the only reasonable place to try to winter over in the City. It is called River City Marina on Wells Street.

The honeycomb buildings are called Marina City. Those slips are expensive and I don't belive they let you keep a boat in the water all year round even if you can afford it. You can get a lot of ice in the part of the river during a cold winter. As I mentioned in an earlier post, the ice starts to melt around Adams St. and is virtually gone by the time you hit Jackson, making River City an ideal location.
