can anyone help me for choosing ?
this is my first time in the forum. I'm italian and I hope that you will forgive me for my imperfect english.
Now I expose my problem.
I hope that someone can help me in the choose between two boats little known in Italy.
After many months during which I have seen several boats (between 40 and 45 feet) to live aboard and sail around the world safely and I am very indecisive between two boats that seems both very good : a Hans Christian 43 and a Liberty 458, both build in 1990.
If anyone knows these boats, can he help me choose ?
Thank you all for your cooperation
I don't know either boat but the 1st things you want are space and comfort inside.
Is either easier to get around in?
Is the engine easy to access?
Is the cockpit sheltered better in either? (from spray, waves etc.)
Self bailing cockpit?
Keel stepped mast?
Do they have lifelines if you're up on the deck?
Hello! I did a quick search and came up with a Hans Christian owners' web site that should be very useful:
Hans Christian Owners Association (HCOA)
Also, you might want to ask the designer, Robert Perry, directly. He posts and watches things in the Sailing Anarchy cruisers' forum on a regular basis:
Cruising Anarchy - Sailing Anarchy Forums
The Hans Christians are in general very popular heavier displacement cruising boats. Like all boat that are 20 years old, there will inevitably be maintenance issues, some common due to build/construction, and others due to quality of maintenance. There are several in our area, but I haven't sailed one so feel limited as what I could add. That said, I'd think a 43 would make a very comfy live aboard.
Puddinlegs, Thank you for giving me the Sailing Anarchy Forum link. I'll certainly use it to contact Bob Perry. Thank you very much. I have interest to know their seaworthiness in heavy seas.
