Liveaboard in Seattle or Puget sound area?
Hello, where are locations one can liveaboard in the Seattle or Puget sound area? I am open to the islands as well (the ones with no/minimal ferry service or bridges). This would be for a 30'> sloop. Thanks : )

Plenty of places
There are plenty of liveaboard places in Puget sound. Everett has a large marina with new concrete docks and shower facilities. Shilshole Bay Marina is also another popular liveaboard choice. You can also check out the Liveaboard Association of Puget Sound for Puget Sound liveaboard info.

There may be availability here on Lopez Island, part of the San Juans. The Islander Resort offers liveaboard, and it is in a nicely protected bay. Fisherman Bay is on the westside of the island and is very low key. Check it out. Good luck in finding your home.

MKJ,
My wife and I are looking for liveaboard slips in the Seattle area. Have you been able to find any information on slips? Any tips that anyone has passed along? We are purchasing a 27' Catalina, and we will moor it at Shilshole until we find a liveaboard spot. Zabriskie |

I've was born and raised in Seattle so I know what the weather is like there. How many poeple out there enjoy living aboard there? How is sailing the 9 months of the year its raining? I love the puget sound but I also want to liveaboard and cruise as much as I can. Any thoughts or comments?

Hi... I'm contracting for Boeing here in Everett and a live aboard at the Everett Marina... great place albeit they are renovating the marina restrooms and showers at the moment... :(... overall it's not a bad place and people are definitely friendly... lots of slips available and reasonable fees... I was renting an apartment till I bought the boat and just took the plunge and moved into the boat and got rid of the expensive apartment... wouldn't even look back again... love the freedom and my home goes where I go... :)

Guitarguy56...Have you ever lived aboard your boat somewhere other than the puget sound. Would you live somewhere else of you could?

My slip mate at Shilshole went cruising every weekend of this fall up until mid December and seemed to be enjoying himself. I do go sailing more often in the summer, but a lot of that comes down to the long days (it's easy to sail after work when you have twilight until 10pm), not only the warmer weather. I'm not a live aboard, so I can't comment on doing that year round here. However I have enjoyed sailing year round here. |

I've been living aboard and sailing here in the PNW for 3 years and would say there is a solid 9 months of great sailing. Having said that I'm headed to the tropics where winters are more like our summers here. :)

Right now the live aboard situation is going great... quiet, safe, low cost, simple life means I have more time on my hands to play guitar and the occasional piano when I come across one! :) Nick |
