Re: The Galley - Must Haves, Don't Needs & Wish List

Love having my tea kettle to heat water for coffee and tea and getting much use from my pressure cooker. I bought a French Press and find that it is not worth the hassle to clean the grinds out...a mess and ALWAYS still some grinds going down the sink. I use a Melita directly into my insulated mug. I use my microwave occasionally to re-heat and in theory will use for popcorn, but want to minimize shore power dependency. Did not bother bringing anything like coffee maker, Cuisinart, or hot pot aboard. Likely to work on replacing hand mixer and stick blender with manual or battery-operated alternatives.

Yes, I am looking for one of those! Used to have to make whipped cream with one at my grandmother's cabin. I figure nowadays I will have to go to an antique or "junk" shop to even find one. Similarly, looking for a hand drill. I don't know who I'm so worried about baking cookies for if I'm going off the grid...but logic hasn't caught up yet, and hopefully never will!

I am glad I am in a French port where they have real UHT cream. so it doesnt need to be refirgerated. Buy it and leave it in the cupboard till you need it then cool it down. Refrigerate after opening to store, of course.

If I could find the old hand beater I would love it.

One more thing to pick up next time I am at my parents house! I am sure she has not used it in 30 years.

I was very happy to find a tea kettle and a pressure cooker on the boat when I bought it. Use them both regularly at home and hope to use it often when on the boat (when it's in the water).
