where to tie the bitter end of an anchor line...

Allow me to digress:
Could we have a list of top 10 areas to tie the bitter end of the anchor line

do you choose an area fast in your boat such as the engine block?
A stanchion?
ex wife's leg?

let me know your thoughts real or imagined

I have an eye bolt in the anchor chain locker for the bitter end of the chain to attach to. It is only to keep from putting it all in the water, never to hold the boat. I tie a rolling hitch around the chain, let it go past the roller and secure it to both foredeck cleats to hold the boat.

I have a combination chain and rope anchor line, and have the end of the rope tied with a bowline through a hole in an 8" piece of treated 2x4 lumber that is too big to go through the deck pipe so the anchor line can't escape the locker entirely. Like Minn, I use a deck cleat to tie off the line for holding the boat.

Our chain is attached to an eyebolt in the locker with lashing so it can be cut if necessary.

Wow Andy I had the exact same idea I think I'm going to apply that this week by the way love your photographs what a beautiful boat I really enjoyed all the wood work on the interior and I like how you have the canvas over the exterior openings on the outside
kudos

I have a light weight tail to the line secured in the anchor locker. The point is to be able to easily cut/release the anchor line if you have to.

The PO of my boat has a cleat inside the anchor locker. Never thought about it till I read this thread; but I guess I need to check the backing/support of that cleat. I like the idea of a line tied to the chain and then to a deck cleat.

Re: where to tie the byte of an anchor line...

We have a huge pad-eye bolted through 6" of wood and glass in the bottom of the anchor locker. I don't use that to secure the boat, it's to retain the anchor. We have 50" of chain and 300' of rope on the main anchor so I usually let out 60' minimum so the chain doesn't scratch up the bobstay and then I cleat the line to both samson posts on the foredeck.
Belt and suspenders.
