Recommended weekend cruise from Port Washington

Hi,

I'm looking for some recommendations for a weekend cruise from our mooring in Port Washington.

We are still fairly new to the game this is our first season on our 30' sailboat and would prefer a mooring ball as we have never anchored.

Would like to try anchoring this weekend also perhaps. We do not have a tender either so the overnight spot would require a shore service.

Thanks in advance

Northport, NY is a boater friendly place that should satisfy your requirements.
Moorings are available as is a launch.

Northport great destination, moorings very close to very nice town.
Also can do Oyster Bay with transient moorings and launch service
as well. (OBMC) Oyster Bay Marine Center comes to mind.
As far as anchoring at first try spending an afternoon and then overnight at anchor right in Manhasset Bay, great spot just southeast of the mooring field off Leeds Pond. Should be able to let out ample scope in late afternoon when most boats will leave.
And if your not happy you can always you can always p.u.
and spend the rest of the night at your own mooring.

This is probably too late, but I just checked the LI page. I did Northport to PW on a return trip in August. I was a nice 6 hours sail. The launch at Seymour's was good, but the bathroom on shore was rather rustic. The day before we sailed from PW to Norwalk. We stayed at the Norwalk Cove Marina. No moorings so you have to stay at a dock, which is more expensive but was nice. Just some thoughts for next year.
