I was interested in finding out about crewing on a boat for the around Long Island Regatta. Does anyone have any info about finding a boat that needs crew (if any exist)?
I have been sailing with someone the last few weekends and he might be still in need for crew. Though he needs to bring his boat down Westport area.. I can ask him..
The ALIR web site *always* has provision for "Crew needed" and "want to crew" so you might try directly at the source.
I've also seen folks literally walking around with a seabag and a sign on their chest that says "WANTS TO CREW" and a fast sailing resume on their back.
Sometimes crew drop out at the last minute (literally) and sometimes the weather turns bad without notice, making "more crew" a last minute good idea.
Since a lot of the boats come the day before and will be in Sheepshead overnight, it can also be a good idea to go there the night before and haunt the launch, asking anyone who's heading in or out.
