Brittania Yacht Center - Northport

Can anyone provide local knowledge regarding this marina? If you've kept a boat there, what are your comments. I've heard that at low tide, there's no water to enter or exit the marina.....

It is really costly at 5k min slip price when at low tide your working with 4' of water (I think they needed to get rid of some of the really FUGLY boats )


The place and people runing the yard are very nice and do a great JOB when i bring my J24 down on the trailer to have it launched in the spring

nice place and nice docks, the channels entering are somewhat shallow because they are maintained by Brittania and don't get dredged to often. There are some rather large sailboats back there and motorboats, what kind of boat would you need to get back there? They do have all you could need on the spot which is also a plus.

Hi Boxedup. I keep my Tartan 3700 at Britannia, and I am not the largest boat there. Pegasus takes five feet of water, so I have an hour or so on either side of dead low when I can't negotiate the channel from the town dock to the marina. They have been trying to get the town to dredge the harbor for years, but so far the problem of what to do with the spoil has not been resolved.

The tide problem is a pain for a day sail because you must deal with it twice in one day, but not that hard to work around for a weekend trip. On the plus side, it is the most wind sheltered marina I have ever docked at, which is good because the fairways are narrower then most marinas. It is probably the most pricey marina on the North Shore, charges based on size of slip not boat, but this year they have many vacant slips, so some under the table deals may get done.

Britannia has some issues with management like most larger marinas, but like most of the boat owners there, I stay because the location and general lay out are so good.

Thanks for the responses. I'm considering fractional ownership w/ Sailtime and Brittania Northport is more convenient for me than their other location in Manhasset. I'm trading off a longer passage to LI Sound rather than to deal with more traffic on the LIE.

The boat I'm looking to get into draws about 4', so I figure I won't have as much of an issue as a larger boat but depending on wind direction and severity of the tide, it might be an issue all the same.

I'll probably take a ride over to Brittania tomorrow and take a look around, even though today would probably be a better judge of how it's sheltered from the wind considering it's blowing like a 5 out there....

Believe me its sheltered more than enough there the only weakness is if the wind is coming from the west then it can whip in there but thats not too common. Also the nice thing about being in Northport is the bay is pretty protected so even if its too much out in the sound you can still sail around in the bay alot. And there are plenty of fun spots to throw out the anchor and hang out.

I keep my pearson303 at Britannia and also work there part time.

The town not Britannia maintains the channel, Britannia is working on the town to dredge.

Sailtime has 3 boats at Britannia.

You will have use of the Pool- 10am-8pm-seasonal
Water & electric at the slips as well as cabel TV
The doc staff works 7am-10pm to assist with fuel and helping you in and out of your slip.

As others have said it is very well protected at the marina
