Mazzy - I know the last post on this was back in April but I just read it and wanted to see if you actually did your trip yet? 3 years ago I circumnavigated Long Island on a 25' boat. It was my first boat and first year with it but it was a great trip. Went east from the Great South Bay stopping in Shinnecock Bay, then out the inlet and 9 hours ocean sail to Block Island, then to Greenport, Sag Harbor, Smithtown /Stony Brook Harbor, Northport, through Hells Gate around to Liberty Landing Marina in Jersey, then one last long day 12 hours ocean sail back to Great South Bay in through Fire Island Inlet. Did part of it myself, part with my gf and part with another buddy. Was definitely an adventure and there were times I was pretty nervous with such a small boat but we made it!

If you have done it I'd love to hear how it went. If not yet but you are still planning feel free to send me a PM with any questions since it sounds like it will be a very similar trip to the one I did. Goodluck!

Anyone who wants to cricumnavigate Long Island (not LIS) in the immeidate future might want to look into the Around Long Island Regatta (ALIR) which runs the last weekend in July every year. Big fun, lots of company, usually good wind or foul wx offshore and then 36 hours of no air in the sound, but everyone has to deal with it. 24' and over, usually is the minimum.
