Jack's Marine in Dering Harbor (Shelter Island)?

Hey there folks. Sorry to pop in after yet another absence only to ask a question, but does anyone have any experience with Jack's Marine in Dering Harbor out on Shelter Island?

We're sailing out to Nantucket next week, and then back to LIS. We're thinking of leaving our boat somewhere out east for a while thereafter, both to lengthen our cruise, but also to use it as an opportunity to drive out for a few weekends thereafter to sail around between the twin forks, maybe shoot out to Block or something like that.

Jack's Marine seems to have the best monthly price for a mooring, which is great, but only if it's a decent place where I can be comfortable that the boat will be safe.

Anyone have experience or knowledge about the place?

I have stayed at Piccozzi's last yr very nice, not as many moorings as Jacks but they have parking, fuel, showers. Jacks has most of the moorings in Dering harbor but no real facilities. Great little town, easy walk to ferry back over to Greenport, nice market/deli for pasties - dinners to go and supplies. There is also the Shelter Island YC which I have been told is very nice - have not been there my self. Harbor is well protected except for NW but even then should not be to bad.

Have no experience with Jack's but Dering Harbor is a nice harbor. However, a mooring in Greenport would be a lot more convenient if you are driving out as you wouldn't have to deal with the ferry.

I just stayed at Jack's about 10 days ago.
Had a pleasant experience. There really isn't much to his place, it is just the store and the moorings. No launch service but there are moorings close to the dingy dock. The management (or people in the store) were very friendly).

I was only there for two nights. The biggest drawback is that he doesn't have showers. In fact the restroom is just the bathroom in the store. I ended up just taking a swim and then washing up in the sink.

Other than that, it was fine.
I would definitely go back there.
