large pod of dolphins sighted in long island sound

Large pod of dolphins (up to several hundred as per launch
operators) sighted in western Long Island Sound.
Sighting have been over good part of the past week.
Sightings off Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point/
City Island visinity.
Must be some good fishing for them to hang out that long.

Have seen a few pods of dolphins out East in Gardiner's Bay in the last two weeks.

On my recent passage across the NJ coast this July, I noticed an unusual amount of dolphins in large pods. I havent seen that many dolphins off NJ since I was a kid (1950s) when it was not all that uncommon to see upwards of several hundred in a pod ... and the water 'boiling' with dolphins.
Good news to hear large dolphin pods again ..... means the fish stocks are probably beginning to recover. One can only hope that this continues.

When I was a kid, we used to be able to drive down to the beach on the North Shore and see long pods of dolphins almost every night. We'd sit in our '57 Chevys or light a fire on the beach, listen to Murry the K and the Swingin' Soiree, and watch dolphins arching their backs in the moonlight. Sadly, kids cannot do this anymore because LI is now the land of NO, overpopulated, gated, and inaccessible, a different planet from the one I grew up in.

It's not that bad Murph. I live two blocks from the water in a blue collar community where the kids still have bonfires. But it all has changed a lot in the 45 years I've been living around here.
