I have a 1999 MAC26X and I'm looking at new sails for next season. I'd like to hear some feedback about replacement sails. I sail on a resevoir in NE PA and we frequently have low wind days with a lot of power boat chop. The sails frequently lose shape and just sit there flopping. I'm thinking about putting on full batten sails that are a lighter weight than the stock Doyle sails. I have a roller furler and I'm thinking about the sleeve that is removed during sailing to reduce the weight the UV band gives for the same reason.
I belong to the Paupack Sailing Club and we race every second Sunday through the summer. It is a handicap fleet with boats from 19' to 27'. We average about 25 boats on the line each race. I'm a middle of the packer. It is very disheartening though as we generally get off the line in the top 5 and just watch the parade of Catalinas and O'Days pass us by. We can hold our own on the upwind legs but we get crushed going downwind. Since it can't be the skipper it must be the boat, sails, crew or anything else.
