Long or short shaft?

Which will work best on my Mac 21?
I have a pivoting outboard mount which is mounted just at the joint face of the hull and topside. The total travel is approx 12" and at it's lowest point the top of the motor mount would be 16" from the bottom of the transom (measured where the motor mount is located).
I am guessing that i need a long shaft?
Help

sailingfool will become famous soon enough
Long shaft is always good with an outboard on a stern, a long shaft will reduce the tendency of the prop popping out of the water, which will happen anyway, its just a question of how often. The less often the better. I'd say any sailboat with an outboard "needs" a long shaft, many probably need longer shafts than actually provided by a "long" shaft.

good luck.
