Re: Spreader dimensions or build?

looks like you have the factional rig with the masthead forestay and upper shrouds or a masthead rig with an inner forestay. how big is the jib? does it got on the inner or outer forestay. does it go all the way to the top of the mast? not sure why you have the inner forestay on a MAC 21. the venture 21 had the inner forestay as the only forestay.

Re: Spreader dimensions or build?

Huh well I will have to find out...Once I raise the mast this weekend. I can measure things up... I do recall him saying something about him putting the small PVC pipe around the forestay because something was rubbing on it, maybe the sheet. When he listed it for sale he did call it a 21 foot Macgregor Venture sloop.

Does that help more?

it does look more like the venture rig with the optical masthead forestay and upper shrouds. they had the uppers added with and without spreaders. I don't see any problem using the rig without spreaders as log as the shrouds are the correct length. it is only a 24' mast. are you sure of the year the boat was built, does it have a HIN number on the transom

Re: Spreader dimensions or build?

For what its worth, in a single spreader rig, the spreaders are typically sufficiently long to allow the cap shrouds to ascend vertically from the chain plates taking into account that the spreaders are customarily angled upwards somewhat such that the angles between the upper and lower sides of the spreader and the upper and lower portions of the shroud at the spreader tip are equal. The object of this arrangement is to insure that the compression loads induced in the spreader itself are co-linear with the center axis of the spreader to avoid induced buckling loads in the spreader.

"It is not so much for its beauty that the sea makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air, that emanation from the waves, that so wonderfully renews a weary spirit."
