I always thought that a serious challanger for MacGregor was...Wading.

I got to discover something about McGregors the other week. We needed to give an assist to one in fairly calm waters, but after a line storm had just come through. His electrics had packed it in, and it never even occured to him to use those big bags of funny white cloth that must have been cluttering up the place down below...

So he called the Coastguard....fair enough.

we are towing him in, and the boat is just waddling all over the place...does not take direction well from the nose at all. We ended up slowing down to around 4knots in order to bring him in upright. That is kind of a new record of slow for a recovery involving an intact hull...

I think this a major challenge for the Macgregor. When I was looking for a trailerable sailboat, I considered one of these and they definately look better and appear to constructed better also.

The length and interior space will be very appealing to anyone.

I read a review from a guy who sailed both. As suspected, both performed much the same. True sailboats they ain't.

While I'm sure the competition will be hot and fierce I have to admit a certain apathy either way. Actually I doubt we'll see many of these in the states at all, price and import are a killer (as is the extra hp at 75 for this one).

My neighbor owns a MacG 26 as his play boat for quickee's (his big boy boat is a Durbeck 46 ft ketch) - it's okay for 12 knot wind day sails to watch a sunset and 25 kt wind "who cares if we turtle it" screamers. Sort of a nice dinghy for old fat guys that can't do 420's any more.

There are some things about those motorsailors that are appealing..........sailing however, is not one of them. I'm glad I bought a sailor. Even when there's no wind.
