Dragging a MacGregor 22 out of the weeds

A monohull at one of those lakeside RV and boat storage places caught my eye a few weeks back. I called the owner, and it had been abandoned on the lot for several years. Turns out it was a 1982 MacGregor 22. I paid $300 for it. I'd already have it home, but the tires were shot, so I had to pull the wheels and have them replaced. I'll be picking it up tomorrow.




I didn't get a lot of shots at the lot. I'll add more once it's home. I'm aiming to get the exterior cleaned up to get on the lake this year, expecting to redo the interior over the winter.

Actually, it is in wonderful shape. The hull just has a slight layer of oxidation and some minor chips. The deck has some moss growing, but nothing a little Comet and a sponge won't cure. The hardware is all is good condition. And the interior wood is serviceable for the rest of the season, if a bit ugly. I'm amazed that I got it for $300.

That is a good price for a serviceable boat. They were probably just happy to get it off of their lot and the $300 was just gravy on top.
I did not see an outboard (or mount) but maybe you wont really need that for the lake you intend to sail on (which lake? where?).
The Mac 22' still has a pretty good following and is a much better trailer sailor then the much maligned Mac 26' 50HP motor sailors.
Full disclosure: I have never sailed on a Mac 22' I just know that there are quite a few sailors out there enjoying these older MacGregor trailer sailors. I have sailed on a Mac 26' S and while the rigging struck me as being a bit light it did handle well and has a lot of room down below.

It has an outboard mount on the port side. I didn't take pictures from that side due to the fact that it was next to an old camper, and I couldn't find a decent angle. I'll post more pics later.
