1971 Venture 17 Hull Id Number location

I have just acquired a V17(pulled it out of a snowbank in Idaho) and am searching for the Hull Id Number. Did MrMac put them on the early boats? If so, where? I have a sail # 236 on the sails, but I bet the HID is different...

I have seen reference to the post 1973 boats being numbered in accordance with Fed Law on the upper right of the transom. This boat, being pre '73, has no numbering in that location.

Sorry nobody has replied yet... Also sorry I have no idea where your HIN is. Mine's a 73 and is on the transom as you described. Can you contact the state authority responsible for producing the registration numbers on the bow? They may even tell you who is the current title holder. (I'm assuming you don't have the title... or else you'd have just got the HIN off of that!)

Thanks for your thoughts and consideration to reply.
It is an odd question and in a shady corner of the forum.

I have a notarized release of interest from the owner of record. He had used the only number visible on the back of the boat as the HIN, last time he had registered it in '97. But, it is the serial number off the little Johnson longshaft, not the Venture.
My hope is that Oregon will see the humor in his paperwork error(since the motor and boat are still together) and assign me a HIN if they can't locate the actual one during their "inspection". I wanted to be able to show them the correct number, if it was still visible, and not deal with additional bureaucratic hassle.

V17 Hull ID No.

If you go in the cabin, crawl a little less than halfway towards the stern on the port bench. Twisting awkardly, look at the starboard bench. You should see a series of holes drilled into the vertical surface. That is the hull i.d. no. I haven't been able to figure out what year our boat is though, just pre-1973.

WHOOP, Whoop! We have a winner! Funny, the number matches the one on my main sail, who would have thunk it??
Thanks Mr Mancino. I now can show my friends at the State Marine Board how smart I are.
