The ferry has the right of way since all commercial boats have the right of way over pleasure craft. The ferry should have avoided the sailboat , since the

Looks like they survived. They must have abandoned ship just in time.

Why would anyone cross the bow of a ferry? I always take the stern unless I have about a mile a cushion. (But I don't race dinghies)

Must have been a very important race. You know how valuable those trophies are!

"Why would anyone cross the bow of a ferry? "
Why would anyone buy a cup of coffee, made with recently boiled water, and then sue MacDonalds when it scalded them?

Hmmm...They crossed so they could sue an insured ferry for the loss of their boat, and sell the video to JackAss video?

With any luck they'll stay off the water now. I just hope they don't try golf.

Mick Young is on a distinguished road
On Sydney harbour all ferys have a diamond shape on there masts which means that they have right of way over all vessels, and they use it against everything, even bloody big warships. Thye have the right of way, they know it and are not afraid to use it.
Hope I dont bump into one over the new years period.

Keep it black side down

Mick

Back in February of this year, the helmsman of a sailboat under power, changed his course at the last moment - steering directly under the bow of a passing ferryboat, leaving harbor. The incident was captured on video by a ferry passenger . . . been circulating a bit, but still an amazing clip.

Who knows what this skipper was thinking before the collison?
