Your recommendations for a short cruise in Maine

I am heading up to Maine with the boat after the July 4th holiday (two week vacation), but with some family obligations along the way and transit to / from long island sound, I'll likely only have 5 days to cruise in Maine. My wife will be meeting me wherever I make landfall downeast and will cruise with me until its time for me to head south again (she doesn't do overnight passages). I was planning to head for Boothbay Harbor initially just because it looks interesting from the cruising guide descriptions, but I'm sure where to head from there.

So, can I ask those of you that have been downeast before or are lucky enough to call it home, if you had 5 days to spend along the coast with your "better half", what ports would visit? Where would you start and finish? My wife enjoys coastal cruising, but she especially likes the shoreside attractions - restaurants, sightseeing, etc. Neither of us has been to Maine in 25 years. I just want everything to go smoothly so she'll be up for longer trips in the future. Thanks in advance for your help.
