I'll tell you whatever I can to help you out. I've got a Universal M4-30 wedged under my floorboards. It didn't fit without creating a raised area about 1.5 foot square to allow the top of the engine and the alternator to fit. The prop shaft is a straight shot on the same pitched lines as the original (I'm assuming this, I did not do the install, but I see no signs of reworking the shaft log, so I'm guessing they retrofitted the engine pitch to match the original). And the exhaust is a dry (gas-only) set up for almost the entire run. There is a double-wall heat exchanger attached to the exhaust manifold of the engine. It's about 2.5' long and about 2.5" in diameter and is fed with raw water. It's got a zinc. Raw water then leaves the heat-exchanger via a rubber hose and rejoins the dry exhaust just before exiting the boat through a thru-hull aft. the tranny is a Hurst HB50, a 2:1 reduction. email me at pub911@yahoo.com for more.

    Hello,

I also have a Hughes-Northstar 38 1972. I am interested in your engine setup. I am about to re-power and would like information on your engine.

Would you mind talking or emailing me about it?

    Thanks,

    Ross Hubbard
